History of Genetically Modified Foods

The first ever genetically modified food was none other than a commonly used item in most recipes which is tomato. This fruit or some might say vegetable was grown after genetic modifications by a company in California in the early 1990s. This raw ingredient was genetically modified to have a slower rate of decomposition after plucking. Most of these genetically modified tomatoes were widely used in tomato purees that were sold in Europe in the mid-1990s.

However, after this period of time, controversial issues regarding genetically modified food started rising. Due to the uncertainty of the safety of genetically modified foods, most people rejected the idea of cultivating genetically modified foods.
